Summary:
As we address those at risk to gang recruitment, we seek to
identify the exceptional former gang member who is then invited
to join the initial core group, as an intern. Those new X
Gangster members, are to be trained by one of our leaders, not
only in peer recruitment, per mentorship, peer and counseling,
for the target audience. Leaderships gifts make way for
themselves, and only need room to grow. Youth are dying to
belong some where, in a ‘family’ that wants them, and is readily
available.
Once the participants have entered the process for a life
change, an advisor (mentor) helps ensure a seamless transition
from this program into prescribed follow up treatment (Life
plan) held by various point centers and alternative services. In
a constantly-building motion, each of the “student leaders” are
provided a variety of progressive step up principles of
Leadership trainings, with the specific point, that they will
eventually be expected to help ‘pay back’, as a catalyst for
change, in their own neighborhoods. This is initially meant to
close the circle of and * redirect generational behaviors. *

Secondarily, these youth and their families provide a
neighborhood ‘doorway’, to sift in those who they can readily
identify who need local alternatives to incarceration. To that
end, our team is a linking mechanism for several teams, to other
groups and a sifting mechanism to engage youth for their
programs, as well. This is the Community in unity, working
together.
A strategic advantage of community partnerships, is the fact we
are linked to many parts of the community in a coordinated
family of local service providers, that can offer extended help
to youth in crises, and their families, in their own
neighborhoods. At neighborhood network point-centers, teams in
our collaborative, have a vast array of resources to help keep
the committed involved in various forms of family
stabilization. It is because of our partners that GXG has been
able to address the direct needs of
so many at-risk youth, while provided realistic training, in
partnership, with many organizations in the Hampton Roads
communities, as well. This is the Community in unity, working
